Barry Callebaut is the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products. As a B2B company, the Barry Callebaut Group supplies the entire food industry. From global and local food producers to professional buyers in the chocolate industry such as chocolatiers, chefs, bakeries, restaurants and caterers. The consolidation of various warehouses into a new 60,000 m² distribution center will make Barry Callebaut's logistics more efficient. SSI Schäfer provides the intralogistics for the world's largest distribution center for chocolate and cocoa products. That is why we are looking for Services technicians for our new Residence Maintance team in Lokeren.
In the new logistics center, SSI Schäfer is installing a 40-meter-high automated pallet high-bay warehouse, which is being built on approximately two soccer fields. The high-bay warehouse in silo design will accommodate 83,000 pallets, representing 83 million kilograms of chocolate. To ensure that products containing chocolate or cocoa are not damaged during storage and handling in the distribution center, temperature-controlled intralogistics are required. SSI EXYZ cranes are used in 13 aisles to store and retrieve double-deep pallets. 700 meters of pallet conveyor systems and a 200-meter-long electric overhead conveyor connect the storage area with the goods-in and goods-out area. As a certified SAP Silver Partner, SSI Schäfer will implement the SAP EWM material flow system. The WAMAS® Lighthouse software platform developed by SSI Schäfer monitors, controls and optimizes the productivity of the entire logistics process.
The construction of the building also meets the requirements of the British sustainability certificate BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). But sustainability also plays an important role in the solution components of SSI Schäfer. For example, SSI EXYZ cranes are extremely compact in design. In combination with an optimized control system, the space requirements are significantly reduced: compared to conventional high bay warehouses, installation space can be saved by up to 5%. That is many cubic meters that do not need to be built, heated or air-conditioned. In addition to the space savings, the operating hangers are also characterized by high energy efficiency, since the counterweights integrated into the mast significantly reduce the hoist's energy requirements compared to any gains in energy recovery.
